Ken Powell is your local Calvert County mortgage loan officer at Fairway Home Mortgage. Born and raised here. Investor here since 2014. Your Calvert County home purchase, refinance, or investment loan is handled by someone who actually knows this market.
Calvert County is my home. I've been investing in real estate here since 2014. I know the difference between a Chesapeake waterfront property and a rural USDA-eligible parcel, and I know which loan fits which situation.
From Prince Frederick to Chesapeake Beach, Lusby to North Beach, I know Calvert County neighborhoods, price ranges, and property types. That knowledge directly impacts your loan strategy.
Large portions of Calvert County, including communities around Huntingtown, Owings, and Prince Frederick, qualify for USDA Rural Development loans with $0 down payment.
Calvert County's Chesapeake waterfront properties frequently exceed conforming loan limits. I specialize in jumbo loans for waterfront estates and luxury properties in the Calvert County market.
Calvert County draws military families, Pax River and Andrews personnel, DC and Annapolis commuters, and buyers who want top-rated schools with the Chesapeake Bay in their backyard. Ken did not just study this market. He moved his family here from Virginia Beach for the schools and the community, and he invests here.
Calvert's public schools are among the most sought-after in Southern Maryland, and the small-town community feel is real, from Huntingtown's acreage to the Twin Beaches boardwalk.
Southern Calvert sits minutes from Patuxent River NAS across the Thomas Johnson Bridge, while northern Calvert serves Joint Base Andrews, Annapolis, and DC commuters. VA loans and BAH math are everyday tools here.
From Solomons marinas to Chesapeake Beach, waterfront and near-water living is part of daily life, with second-home and jumbo financing for the premium properties and steady rental demand for investors.
Stable government employment, limited housing supply, and consistent tenant demand from base personnel give Calvert strong long-term investment fundamentals. DSCR loans let investors qualify on the property's rent.
Ken Powell and Fairway Home Mortgage offer every loan program available to Calvert County home buyers, veterans, and investors.

Ken was born in Jamaica and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He joined the Navy at 18 and spent a career traveling the world, living among different cultures, and learning how to solve problems with the resources in front of him. From 2009 to 2012 he was stationed at Pax River, and when it came time to put down roots, he moved his family from Virginia Beach to Lusby to raise his kids amongst family.
He chose Calvert County on purpose. He loves the school system and the community, and his goal is to be a local resource here: a knowledgeable, trustworthy professional you can sit down with, not a call center.
Ken is available to have a conversation with you, understand your vision, and help you obtain the loan that fits your real estate goals. He asks questions first, identifies what you actually need, and then puts his knowledge and problem-solving to work.
The House Keys for Employees Program offers valuable financial assistance to eligible participants looking to purchase their first home: up to $15,000 in down payment or closing cost assistance, with up to $5,000 provided by the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) as a 0% deferred loan. It can be a real help, and it also has details you should understand before you commit.
You must work with a Maryland Mortgage Program certified lender, and it helps to review the participant checklist and the county's House Keys tutorial so you understand each step. For eligibility confirmation, contact the county's Recruitment and Retention Specialist, Jennifer Davis.
Not sure if the tradeoffs are worth it for your situation? Bring Ken the numbers. He will compare House Keys against your other options honestly, including the option of not using it. Read the full House Keys 4 Employees guide โ
